Sundar Pichai Named New CEO of Google

Google is arguably the biggest brand in the world and is used by billions of people from all over the world. The company’s co-founders recently made a couple of strategic decisions which included promoting Indian born Sundar Pichai to the position of Google CEO and forming a new company known as ‘Alphabet’ which will serve as a parent company and Google will now be a part of the Alphabet.

Sundar Pichai who was born in Chennai, India started working with Google in 2004. He has an impressive academic record having first completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) a premier institution in India. He went on to complete his M.S. from Stanford University and would later on get an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Google co-founder Larry Page stated that Google has always strived to be an unconventional company by working on projects that most people considered crazy. Page stated that he believed Pichai has a similar mindset that made him the best candidate to lead Google and take the company to the next level. Page will focus his attention on running Alphabet and overseeing a number of new and exciting projects and his co-founder Sergey Brin will serve as the President. Page spoke highly of Pichai and stated that Google’s board fully supported the decision to promote him to CEO and he will have a key role to play in taking Google to the next level.

Speaking about Pichai’s promotion, Page said

I feel very fortunate to have someone as talented as he is to run the slightly slimmed down Google and this frees up time for me to continue to scale our aspirations. I have been spending quite a bit of time with Sundar, helping him and the company in any way I can, and I will of course continue to do that.

Google itself is also making all sorts of new products, and I know Sundar will always be focused on innovation — continuing to stretch boundaries. I know he deeply cares that we can continue to make big strides on our core mission to organize the world’s information

Page and Sergey were excited with Alphabet and stated that by appointing Pichai as Google CEO, they will now have more time to concentrate on a number of new projects such as X lab, : Life Sciences a project that is looking to create glucose-sensing contact lens and Calico a project that looks to increase longevity.
